I got a CRKT M16-14 when they first came out back in 1997-1998. Since then it had become my EDC, and used for anything/everything about a handful of times every day. I liked that it would hold an edge pretty good, had a strong lockup, fit good in a pants pocket, and it looked good. For the money, one of the best dollar per quality values going.
I noticed the other day the blade would no longer lock when opened, UNLESS I used the secondary liner lock lever. Apparently time has taken its toll, and alas, ye old trusty M16-14 was wearing out.
I emailed CRKT about my problem. I got a response the very next morning, telling me I had one of the very early ones, as they upgraded the M16-14 soon after its initial release. The upgrade was a spring on the secondary liner lock lever, such that every time the blade is opened, it automatically activates the safety lever. Therefore, one must release the safety lever as well as release the liner lock itself in order to close the knife. (I was unaware of this upgrade.) They "strongly advised" for safety reasons that I send my knife in to them for a rebuild to include the upgrade. They even offered to simply send me the upgraded model, but I told them my knife has sentimental value to me and if it could be repaired/rebuilt that would work better for me.
A week and a half later, my rebuilt knife is back in my pocket.
Good people to work with, and good people that stand behind their product. They claim a "limited lifetime warranty". I told them it was a gift from my son almost twenty years ago, and a receipt was not gonna happen. No problem.
I would also "strongly advise" to consider their knives.
